Eastern Maine Community College runs a medical assisting degree program at its Bangor campus. Students have the option to complete their training at full time day classes or part time evening classes. This degree program is CAAHEP accredited and consequently graduates can apply to take the AAMA Certification exam to earn the title of CMA (Certified Medical Assistant). Students will receive hands on training to help them master the skills needed to perform clinical and administrative medical assisting procedures. Students will study courses in a range of subject areas, including anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, insurance coding, and principles of pharmacology. In their fifth semester, students will be expected to complete a medical assistant externship to gain practical, real world experience of working in a healthcare environment.

Kennebec Valley Community College

At its campus in Fairfield, Kennebec Valley Community College runs a medical assisting degree program, which is CAAHEP accredited. Students will receive theoretical instruction and laboratory lessons in the clinical procedures and medical office skills needed to be a competent medical assistant. After completing the coursework, students will complete work experience placements in real world settings to get practical experience in the field prior to graduating.
